Pixar and Mac OS X Icons

It dawned on me that Pixar artwork and Mac OS X icons coexist in the same universe.

Both take careful consideration of lighting, shadows and materials, but both also make a conscious choice to not implement literal photorealism. The result is a highly stlyized, whimsical version of reality that is hard to mimick without blantantly ripping off.

An object in this style creates a mental paradox that this thing probably doesn't really exist, but the representation is so convincing that you're just not sure.

Keep this in mind when you go see The Incredibles. I think it demonstrates the principle even more than Toy Story.
