Keeping Pixar in Emeryville

Pixar has put together plans to expand its campus over time. Despite being approved by the mayor and city council, some groups have decided to try to block the plan in order to get more out of Pixar.

The reality is that Pixar will leave Emeryville if they don't get what they believe are reasonable terms for the expansion. The opposition seems to think this is a bluff, which suggests to me that the opposition doesn't know anything about the CEO. :) They suggest that it "wouldn't make business" sense to do so, which is an odd thing to say if you're not the one running the company.

One of the strangest elements of this is the opposition's claim that the expansion eliminates planned housing units. I have it on good authority that this is completely fabricated as Pixar already owns the land in question.

The request for less traffic and cars is noble, but I haven't seen any practical suggestion in the materials for how this would happen beyond that which Pixar has already provided.

But this will backfire if Pixar leaves and takes 750 current jobs plus 1,000 additional planned jobs and associated city revenue. And you can bet various other cities will be tripping over themselves to court the company.

Pixar, of course, wants to stay in Emeryville if possible.
