The Incredibles
Saw it at a screening at Pixar on Sunday night.I guess there are two audiences for the movie. One is the casual moviegoer. In this category, Incredibles more than delivers on the action and comedy kids and non-kids expect. It's a no-brainer, well-worth the money.
The other audience is somebody who's really into animated films and visual arts. On this level, Incredibles is nothing less than brilliant.
I can't really choose any one area where the movie excels because the whole thing comes together so beautifully. The visuals and music just ooze style. I could talk at length about this alone. The level of detail in facial expressions and subtle mannerisms is a level beyond anything Pixar has done before.
I'm in awe of the story, characters and dialog. It's easy to forget about the 3D animation and just appreciate the core feeling of the movie. I hadn't realized how empty most movies leave me feeling.
A few days before the screening, I found out that the director, Brad Bird, also directed the Iron Giant. That movie was extremely well done but really underappreciated. I'm so glad somebody gave Brad a bigger canvas. He's restored my hope in movies.
