DataCrux Update: Part 1

Erik recently mentioned that MailDrop 2 uses DataCrux, and the project also just received a rather large donation (see below), so I figured a quick update is in order.

LogTen was the first shipping, for-pay application to use DataCrux. MailDrop 2 will likely be the second, and there are a few more I know of (one I'm NDA'd against discussing).

DataCrux has been under fast-track development for the last several weeks as these apps charged through the framework, pointing out issues that had to be resolved. Some of the most important features are better support for multi-document apps, preliminary bindings support and dynamically typed storage.

This last feature is useful when you have a dictionary/array that may contain objects that don't all belong to the same class. There's a slight performance penalty, of course, to figure that out at runtime, but the functionality is simply required in some places. There are all kinds of bug fixes and speed improvements too, of course.

Rather than supporting a public beta program, I've been working closely with a few key developers to refine the codebase. That will change shortly, though. A new public release with new documents is imminent.

There's also a major new addition to DataCrux family that practically no one knows about yet but is already in production use in several places. Should be exciting when I can let that cat out of the bag.

I'm also looking for some feedback on how important SQLite 3 support is to people. It's still in beta and the API is slightly different so I've favored other DC improvements over supporting the new API. But if you feel like this is important, let me know.

Finally, a big thanks to a group who will have to remain anonymous for the moment (though the name is well-known) for a quite large donation to support the DataCrux project. And beyond the monetary donation, they're also contributing in terms of some key improvements to the overall framework. The application itself looks very interesting as well. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

The next update will talk about how DataCrux relates to CoreData and some other requests for feedback.

Any info on when more documentation or an updated example using the latest release may be available?
Thanks!
