The point is well made, but I think in these issues you have to keep your target audience in mind. I am currently writing a scientific app that will mainly be used at universities, and I am actually still targeting both Panther and Tiger. I know from experience that university computers are updated very rarely (some are still using Classic), so I am trying to be as backward compatible as possible, without making it too hard for myself.
